Her arrival set a precedent in the history of biotechnology, as it proved that it was possible to copy life from an already differentiated cell.<\/p><p>However, her early death raised doubts and concerns about the viability and safety of cloning, as she died at the age of six, to the surprise of the entire world, which had been closely following the life and development of the sheep. Since then, questions have persisted, as if it were an unsolved case: Why did Dolly die? What did she die of? Is animal cloning viable? A few weeks later, another cloned sheep from the Roslin Institute died of the same cause. This sheep had been in contact with Dolly years earlier, so the chances of infection were high. They became even higher\u2014almost definitive\u2014when one of her lambs was diagnosed with ovine pulmonary adenomatosis. The alarms were fully triggered.<\/p><p>It became a reality when they saw Dolly <strong>cough<\/strong> for the first time, in February 2003, confirming her <strong>lung disease<\/strong>. With no effective treatments available, the research team\u2019s main goal was to ensure that if Dolly developed the disease, she would not be allowed to suffer. Daily health checks, veterinary examinations, and strict weight control were intensified.<\/p><p>Days later, on February 14, 2003, a scan confirmed that <strong>tumors<\/strong> were growing exponentially in Dolly\u2019s lungs.
