Although they have natural mechanisms to regulate their\u00a0<strong>body temperature<\/strong>, high temperatures can surpass their adaptive capacity and lead to a\u00a0<strong>serious problem<\/strong>\u00a0such as heat stroke, dehydration, muscle fatigue, and, in the worst-case scenario, the death of the animal.<\/p><p>Therefore, understanding how their bodies react to heat is the first step in providing\u00a0<strong>excellent care<\/strong>\u00a0and ensuring their well-being during a high-risk season.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ovohorse.com\/en\/ovohorse-at-hh-the-amir-sword-2025\/\">Gulf countries<\/a>\u00a0such as Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, Iran, Qatar, United Arab Emirates, Oman, and Sudan\u2014some of the hottest in the world\u2014pose a serious threat to horses due to their climatic conditions. For this reason, knowing how to treat them when the heat intensifies will be especially important.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-79e94e7 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"79e94e7\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">How extreme heat affects horses\n<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-bc9d7bc elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"bc9d7bc\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Scientific research and observational studies have confirmed how extreme heat affects horses. However, without sufficient fluids,\u00a0<strong>metabolic processes<\/strong>\u00a0do not function properly, increasing the risk of dehydration, lethargy, dry mucous membranes, or heat stress.<\/p><p>It is worth mentioning that a horse\u2014depending on weight, climate conditions, and physical activity\u2014requires around\u00a0<strong>30\u201350 liters of water per day<\/strong>\u00a0to stay properly hydrated and avoid the risk of dehydration, as 60\u201370% of the horse\u2019s body is made up of water.<\/p><p>To check if your horse is at\u00a0<strong>risk of dehydration<\/strong>:<\/p><ul><li>Check its\u00a0<strong>nasal mucous membranes<\/strong>; they should be moist\u2014never dry.<\/li><li>Gently pinch the neck and see if the\u00a0<strong>skin color<\/strong>\u00a0returns to normal quickly.<\/li><li>The\u00a0<strong>urine color<\/strong>\u00a0should be pale; if it\u2019s very dark, that\u2019s a clear sign of dehydration.<\/li><li>Observe the\u00a0<strong>breathing rate<\/strong>.
