Le Dr Ian Wilmut et son \u00e9quipe de l\u2019Institut Roslin d\u2019\u00c9dimbourg avaient obtenu la naissance vivante de la c\u00e9l\u00e8bre \u00ab brebis Dolly \u00bb (n\u00e9e en 1961), probablement la brebis la plus c\u00e9l\u00e8bre du monde.<\/p><p>Pour comprendre ce <strong>qu\u2019est le clonage animal<\/strong>, comment il fonctionne et comment il est utilis\u00e9 de nos jours, nous devons commencer par la signification des mots \u00ab cloner \u00bb et \u00ab clonage \u00bb. Bien que cela ne soit pas scientifiquement exact, il peut \u00eatre utile de consid\u00e9rer les clones comme des jumeaux identiques n\u00e9s \u00e0 des moments diff\u00e9rents. Et, tout comme les vrais jumeaux, m\u00eame si leur composition g\u00e9n\u00e9tique est la m\u00eame, les clones individuels pr\u00e9senteront des diff\u00e9rences en fonction de leurs exp\u00e9riences de vie distinctes. <\/p><p>La technique la plus utilis\u00e9e actuellement pour le clonage est connue sous le nom de <strong>transfert nucl\u00e9aire de cellules somatiques (TNCS)<\/strong>. Tout d\u2019abord, il est n\u00e9cessaire d\u2019obtenir un <strong>\u00e9chantillon de l\u2019ADN de l\u2019animal<\/strong>. Celui-ci peut provenir d\u2019un \u00e9chantillon cryoconserv\u00e9 ou, dans le cas d\u2019un animal de grande valeur d\u00e9c\u00e9d\u00e9 pr\u00e9matur\u00e9ment, d\u2019une biopsie r\u00e9alis\u00e9e imm\u00e9diatement apr\u00e8s sa mort.<\/p><p>Ensuite, les embryologistes doivent pr\u00e9lever un ovule (de l\u2019esp\u00e8ce appropri\u00e9e) et en extraire le noyau. On obtient ainsi un <strong>ovule vide<\/strong>, sans g\u00e8nes propres, mais dot\u00e9 de toutes les fonctions n\u00e9cessaires pour \u00eatre f\u00e9cond\u00e9 et pour permettre le d\u00e9veloppement embryonnaire.<strong> L\u2019ADN du noyau de l\u2019animal<\/strong> donneur est introduit dans l\u2019ovule receveur et, si le processus r\u00e9ussit, la cellule commencera \u00e0 se diviser et l\u2019embryon se formera. L\u2019embryon est soigneusement cultiv\u00e9 (cro\u00eet) au laboratoire jusqu\u2019\u00e0 ce qu\u2019il soit pr\u00eat \u00e0 \u00eatre transf\u00e9r\u00e9 dans l\u2019ut\u00e9rus de l\u2019animal receveur (comme dans les techniques habituelles de reproduction assist\u00e9e).
