TRUST THE SPECIALISTS

cell line preservation

The first step towards a future together

Our mission is to make our clients happy. We offer our specialised services in genetic preservation and the cloning of dogs and cats, camels and horses, among others. Our team of specialists and veterinarians is made up of animal lovers who fully understand and share the bonds that people develop with their pets.

Pet cloning makes it possible to obtain a genetically healthy animal identical to an existing one. It is a simple and safe process that you can carry out thanks to our cell preservation bank, where you can store biological samples until you decide to use this material for the cloning process.

If you have a best and loyal friend and are interested in animal cloning, our team of professionals can begin the replication process once the DNA sample is received (usually skin tissue). Our team will carry out the cloning in a specialised and secure laboratory using the best protocols and techniques to complete the procedure successfully. In addition, all animals will undergo veterinary tests to ensure they are in good health.

The preservation of pet cell lines makes it possible to obtain a genetically healthy animal identical to an existing one.

How is the process of
the preservation of cell lines carried out?

The cloning process is very simple and begins with a DNA sample. It can be a cryopreserved sample or, in the case of a valuable animal with a premature end, from a biopsy (skin tissue) taken immediately after its death. To carry out the process, we need to extract the nucleus from an egg (of the indicated species) in order to fertilise this egg —without its own genes— with the DNA sample. The fusion of this fertilised egg will give rise to an embryo.

CELL LINE PRESERVATION KIT

At Ovoclone, we provide you with a specialised kit for the preservation of cell lines, designed to ensure the highest quality and safety in every process.

We have adapted and fully equipped facilities to carry out any animal cloning or reproduction procedure, following strict biosecurity protocols that ensure the success of each stage.

If you wish, you can request our kit, but it is important to note that the entire procedure must be carried out exclusively by a veterinarian. For this reason, the kit will be sent directly to your trusted veterinarian, who will be responsible for collecting and handling the samples in accordance with our recommendations.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

The cloning process itself takes about one day. Therefore, in order to carry out a proper cloning procedure, we must have the availability of fibroblasts, oocytes, and the necessary equipment to perform it.

Cells, before cloning, can be preserved for an unlimited period of time. This may range from years to decades. For example, in our laboratory we have stored samples from specimens that were cryopreserved twenty to thirty years ago.

This basically depends on the species to be cloned. In the case of pets such as dogs and cats, the approximate time is around ten months compared to larger animals, such as horses. In these cases, the period varies, with an approximate duration of one and a half years. This essentially depends on the gestation time of the animal we wish to clone.

For a successful planning process, we must have the availability of viable cells. Therefore, elements such as nails, hair, and teeth do not contain such viable cells. In our laboratory, we use skin samples to obtain fibroblasts, making this technique less invasive and always focused on ensuring the welfare of the animals.

The embryos obtained after a cloning process are transferred to recipient mothers selected by our team. They will undergo continuous pregnancy and health monitoring to ensure that the entire process goes as smoothly as possible. They cannot be kept at your facilities precisely for this reason. These mothers will be more or less of a similar size to the animals being cloned from the original. Also, they will have the calmest possible temperament so that there is no stress or anything harmful during the entire gestation process.

It is possible to clone geldings or mares with reproductive problems, since all we need to generate a clone is a somatic cell, that is, a diploid cell containing all the genetic material to create a new organism.

The main difference between traditional assisted reproduction and cloning is that the former is sexual reproduction. That is, we need an egg and a sperm cell in order to generate an embryo. However, in cloning, which is an asexual reproduction, we need an enucleated egg, that is, without genetic information, and a somatic cell, which does contain all the genetic information necessary to generate an embryo. This way, a new organism is created with the same genetic information as the original animal.

If your animal is ill, do not hesitate to collect the cells as soon as possible. The most important thing is to obtain the sample while the animal is still alive. If it is sick, don’t worry. We can take samples from areas that are not affected by the disease, in order to generate a completely healthy clone.

If your animal has just passed away, the most important thing is not to freeze the body and to contact our team as soon as possible. You still have the possibility to preserve its genetics and opt for cloning. If you cannot count on your veterinarian at such a crucial moment, don’t worry. We make our entire team available to help you. We can send a specialised person to your home to collect the samples, or we can also refer you to a trusted professional nearby who works with us.
