Ovohorse has attended one of the most prestigious events in the equestrian world, the HH The Amir Sword Festival 2025, held at the iconic Al Rayyan Racecourse in Doha, Qatar, from 13 to 15 February.
The event brought together internationally renowned owners, trainers, and riders, and featured a total prize fund of 10 million dollars. The two main races, the HH The Amir Sword and the HH The Amir Trophy, each awarded 2.5 million dollars, with a total of 28 participants from all around the world.
This festival, organised by the Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club (QREC), is the most highly regarded in the horse racing calendar of the country’s capital. For this reason, the HH The Amir Sword Festival has established itself as a global benchmark in the equestrian world and in the thoroughbred breeding industry. The HH The Amir Sword Festival stands out for its sporting importance and its commitment to preserving equine genetics and Qatari tradition, reflected this year in its new identity inspired by the “bisht”.
Enrique Criado, embryologist and CEO of Ovohorse, expressed his happiness and excitement at witnessing this prestigious festival live: “Attending the HH The Amir Sword 2025 Festival has been an extraordinary experience. This event reflects the equestrian excellence and tradition of Qatar. Every detail has been spectacular, from the impeccable organisation to the high level of competition.”
The mare Lulwa Al-Faisal (Al Wukair × Epicurus) was crowned champion in the sand championship for locally bred thoroughbreds. Owned by Abdul Latif bin Hussein Zainal Al Amadi and trained by Khalifa bin Hamad bin Nasser Al Sawai, this five-year-old mare shone thanks to a spectacular comeback in the final stretch.
The festival concluded with a closing ceremony at the Al Uqda Equestrian Complex, where His Highness, the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, presented awards to the winners of the main competitions. The horse Al Ghadeer, representing Al Shaqab Racing, claimed the Golden Sword in the 2400-metre race for Arabian Thoroughbreds. In addition, Rebels Romance, from the Godolphin stable, won the trophy in the 2400-metre race for English Thoroughbreds.
